My formal training is in social epidemiology, and my work centers on urban health disparities. My work explores this central question: How can we better understand and alleviate the human suffering that often accompanies poverty and social inequality? I am interested in how we--as human beings, as researchers, as teachers--see the world, document it, inspect and remedy social hazards, etc. Recently, I'm engaged with public artists, exploring how art can energize public health inquiry and practice.
